Sangam House

Sangam house is an international writer's residency program that brings together writers from across the world to live and work in India among their peers in a safe, supportive and nurturing space.

The support

Major art forms, especially the visual and performing arts, have traditionally thrived with private support and patronage. This has never been the predominant model for literature. We aim to establish an international network of patronage and public support that will help serious writing flourish. We seek partnerships from individuals and cultural organizations that recognize this void and acknowledge the potential of literature to illuminate the complexities of the human, political and economic conditions around the world.

With this in mind, Sangam House partners with freeDimensional, www.freedimensional.org, an organization dedicated to finding safe havens for artists of all disciplines who have been put in danger directly because of their work. There are countless writers in too many regions of the world who have been censored, forced into exile, or received death threats; these writers are, quite literally, looking for a home. We will reach out to as many of them as possible as a member of the freeDimensional network.

Sangam House also actively seeks financial partnerships and sponsorships to bring writers from across the world to Sangam House. For more information, contact arshia@sangamhouse.org (for South Asia) and dwgibson@sangamhouse.org (for all other regions).
